This editorial is about the connection of Eastern and Western countries. It is the meeting point of movements from different world regions, mixed together. At the base of this editorial, the movement of Orientalism. Orientalism was one of the biggest trend in 1910s (brought in France by Paul Poiret), but more than a trend it symbolizes the cultural heritage of various Oriental countries. A few decades later, Pop Art was ruling the Art world, embodied by Andy Warhol. This project is a mix of popping colors and prints, of silk and cardboard, of plastic and glass. It is about connecting opposed things to make them coexist. It also symbolizes our world nowadays, where different cultures coexists in cities particularly. The Orientalism is represented by the silk pyjamas with Chinese patterns as well as the floral prints on the blouse. The Pop Art is symbolized by Coke bottles, plastic bottles, shopping bag and the trash can. To show the perfect fusion of the two worlds we decided on using popular culture logos such as the Coca-Cola one, Starbucks and Ikea. We then mixed them up with Oriental patterns. We decided on using sportwear items because we wanted to do a sort of «week in the life» of someone active and messy, a kind of young adult living in the city. You can see the influence of both worlds on the person as the day goes by. The first picture would be the «I went for a run and had to change quickly for work», while the second would be the laundry bag getting fuller and fuller and the last one would be representing the day of running errands. |
