You probably have been seeing it everywhere. Polka dots, warm colours, linen and cotton have invaded our Instagram/Pinterest feeds as well as most of the Spring/Summer 2018 runways. With the warm weather fully settled and the knowledge of your summer vacation coming soon, you might want to transform into a South of France girl. Here is our guide on how to shop, furnish, smell and live like a Mediterranean woman. SHOP Let’s start with your wardrobe first. Where to shop? First of all, Jacquemus, of course, since it’s one of the brands that started this whole trend with its «La Bomba» collection. Loewe, Jil Sander can also be a good pick with their numerous linen and cotton minimalist pieces. In the bridge fashion category, you could choose Nanushka, an emerging Hungarian brand who designs a lot of neutral toned garments. And of course, fast-fashion stores such as Mango, Zara or & Other Stories offer a huge variety of summer pieces inspired by this trend. FOLLOW This trend is now all over instagram, although some influencers’ styles have been embodying this South of France vibes for a while. Starting off with the most famous ones, @chrisellelim and @neginmirsalehi recently posted some serious Mediterranean outfits, @sincerlyjules casual style can easily express the effortlessness of this trend. Although, if we had to talk about three new names worth discovering it would be @nycbambi, @yoshinomia and @lafemmebeige. Those three influen-cers have really distinctive styles, based on their obsession with the French riviera, mixing vintage pieces and more modern ones. WATCH AND LISTEN You can easily get inspired by watching movies: the landscapes, the outfits, the soundtracks... To get the Mediterranean feels, you can start by watching Et Dieu créa la femme, a classic French movie with iconic actress Brigitte Bardot. More recent movies like Call Me By Your Name, La French or La Villa are also worth being watched. If you want to feel as if you are casually relaxing on a sunbed, here is what you should listen to. We would strongly advise some good old Serge Gainsbourg with La Javanaise or Je t’aime moi non plus. You could also listen to La Mer by Chantal Chamberland. FURNISH When it comes to furnishing a South of France or Spanish modern inspired house, natural materials and warm colours will be your friends. You can start with key items, to progressively add some solar touches to your home. If you are planning on doing this, we would strongly advise going with woven baskets, jute or Moroccan inspired rugs. Focus on wooden and linen textures, keep the color combination neutral (with beige, brown, white) adding warm colours in touches (orange, mustard, burgundy). Check out stores like Maisons du Monde or Anthropologie. Finally, if you want to spice up your art gallery, you can invest in Cate Adriana’s illustrations for some minimalist modern art. SMELL Mediterranean scents usually bring warmth, they are (most often) based on Orange blossoms and Citrus smells. We could describe these scents as a mix of beachy and oriental. Here is a selection of fragrances we put together in order for you to become a real South of France girl. Starting with those who like the summery smell of salty hair and sand, you would certainly enjoy the Beach Walk by Maison Margiela. For lovers of oriental scents, we would advise L’Eau de Torocco or L’Eau de Neroli by Diptyque. For a more feminine fragrance, check out Acqua di Par-ma’s Gelsominio Nobile. With jasmin and floral accents, this perfume might be more adapted for the spring season. If you like woody scents, try Orris & Sandalwood Cologne Intense by Jo Malone. Finally, to complete the furnishing of your South of France inspired house, you can invest in an Orange Blossom Room Spray (by Diptyque). It is back to school season, the perfect opportunity to go back to your books (even if you are not a student anymore). Perfect your fashion education with these books and the wonderful thing? They can even serve as coffee table books.
